About Keith Bridwell, MD
Dr. Bridwell is a world-renowned spine surgeon who has performed over 6,000 surgeries throughout his 30+ year career. Since 1984, he has been with WashU Medicine, performing complex spinal deformity surgery at Barnes Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital. He treats pediatric and adult patients with spinal deformities, complex spinal disorders, degenerative disorders of the spine, spinal surgery revisions, scoliosis, kyphosis and spondylolisthesis.
He specializes in the evaluation of complex spinal disorders of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. Spinal disorders can be very challenging to diagnose and treat, and now patients have a unique opportunity to schedule a consultation with Dr. Bridwell to help guide their clinical care. An evaluation by a experienced surgeon who is world-renowned for his expertise in complex spine disorders, has practiced spine surgery for more than thirty years, and has served as a president of the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) can be invaluable. Although all patients gain to benefit from seeing Dr. Bridwell for an evaluation, this is especially true for patients with complex problems such as those with a spinal deformity (for example, scoliosis or kyphosis), multi-level spinal stenosis (i.e. narrowing of the spinal canal), or those who have been told they need an operation.
During the consultation, Dr. Bridwell will help develop a comprehensive treatment plan rooted in his years of spinal expertise. Treatment options (all operative and nonoperative options) will be discussed at great length. Patients will meet with Dr. Bridwell’s operative and nonoperative teams for further understanding of their condition and recommended treatment. Dr. Bridwell will spend a great deal of time discussing all the benefits and risks of all operative and nonoperative treatments. After extensive consultation and discussion, he will create a treatment plan based on the patient’s condition that may include a nonoperative pathway or surgery. If surgery is advised, the surgery will be performed by one of Dr. Bridwell’s partners, which Dr. Bridwell’s team will arrange and facilitate.
